I was having a conversation with a friend the other day, and she mentioned she was heading off to spend the weekend away with a few couples/ friends. Knowing what I do, of course she wanted to get my opinion on what she was planning on wearing for the trip, especially for night time.

You see, she’s usually a very low-key person, and for these outings she was compulsively shopping for very flashy dresses. Uhm.

When I confronted her with her choices she said “Well, I don’t really know what to wear because I never went out with so-and-so before, and I’m afraid I’ll be either too overdressed or underdressed!!”.

So how do you know what to pick? And should you pick thinking about the other women going with you, and what they might be wearing?

The short answer is: NO.

The beauty about finding your personal style is that you’ll never feel the need to match your counterparts again.

Knowing your personal style gives you the confidence to just wear whatever you feel fabulous in. And when you do need to step it up a notch, you also know exactly what you need to add.

You don’t (and you shouldn’t) follow other people’s style. You can take inspiration from everyone but, at the end of the day, you need to do you. And that only comes naturally when you know yourself, your style, and you have a healthy level of self confidence.
